when I was young I was restless
I sang the songs of the travelling men
I was a hobo a gypsy a drifter
in a world that seemed bigger then
in church I stood and I wondered
I sang the songs of the saints and the dead
with the beat of the Devil’s music
pounding hard inside my head
and every night in Mally’s Bar
we’d dance to our favourite tunes
and when the lights went down in Mally’s Bar
we’d be there in the corner of the room
you came into my life like a hurricane
hungry for kisses of fire
took me from the land and showed me how
to wander the streets and survive
on your mouth I tasted my future
in your brown hair I found my disguise
the moving clouds were drifting
across those endless skies
and every night in Mally’s Bar
we’d dance to our favourite tunes
and when the lights went down in Mally’s Bar
we’d be there in the corner of the room
sometimes you spend a lifetime looking
howling at the moon
then one day you turn around
and it’s there, in the corner of the room
did you ever get to Hollywood?
did you find that home in Skye?
I knew four walls wouldn’t hold you
I knew you would always survive
I lost myself in the world of books
hungry to find the truth
in search of an education
but I learned much more from you
and every night in Mally’s Bar
we’d dance to our favourite tunes
and when the lights went down in Mally’s Bar
we’d be there in the corner of the room
