WHAT WONDROUS LOVE IS THIS?

Learned, as "Wondrous Love", from the 1971 edition of the Denson Revision of "The Sacred Harp"

The Sacred Harp says the authorship is unknown, but cyberhymnal.org credits the words to
Alexander Means and the music to William Walker (1835). The main line is a well-known
English and Scottish folk tune from much earlier.

what wondrous love is this O my soul, O my soul
what wondrous love is this O my soul
what wondrous love is this that caused the king of bliss
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul

when I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down
when I was sinking down, sinking down
when I was sinking down beneath God痴 righteous frown
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul, for my soul
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul

to God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing
to God and to the Lamb I will sing
to God and to the Lamb who is the great I Am
while millions join the theme I will sing, I will sing;
while millions join the theme I will sing.

and when from death I知 free I値l sing on, I値l sing on
and when from death I知 free I値l sing on.
and when from death I知 free I値l sing and joyful be
throughout  eternity I値l sing on, I値l sing on;
throughout eternity I値l sing on
